The Former First lady Patience Jonathan was ordered by the Federal High Court in Lagos presided by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun to a forfeiture of $8.4 million and N9.2 billion to the Federal Government.
The final judgement was delivered yesterday, July 1st in the suit filed before her court by the EFCC, Justice Olatoregun held that the money is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
She allowed an application by the EFCC that the money should be permanently forfeited.
The judge held that Mrs Patience Jonathan could not prove that the money was legitimately earned.
Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN) counsel to Mrs Jonathan had held that the money in question was cash gifts the former first lady received from well-wishers while her husband, Goodluck Jonathan, was in office.
