The Samata Nagar police on Tuesday, May 14, said it has detained a Nigerian couple who supposedly steal data and pin numbers of consumers in various locations at ATM’s in order to create cards of their information by inserting micro connections and a skimmer.
The authorities identified the duo as Rosy Colin Warri, 34, and Isaiah Ogunleye Seyi, 37 may be living in India as their passports could not be seen in their property.
The episode came to light when the YES bank branch at the Chennai head office obtained a number of complaints regarding the’Yes bank’ ATM centre that is situated in Thakur village. When the bank checked the skimmer machine, a camera was found installed at the ATM.
The bank authorities filed in the Samta Nagar police station A criticism.
“They’d put a skimmer and micro-camera in a Yes Bank ATM kiosk at Thakur village. After a customer approached police claiming that he had witnessed a skimmer attached to the ATM, we started investigations,” said senior inspector Raju Kasbe, Samta Nagar police station.
They waited for hours away from the ATM center and began to put a trap. On May 12, 2019 success was attained by them as they managed to capture the defendant, who returned back in order to take the micro camera and the skimmer machine.
The police posted them outside the ATM kiosk and formed four groups. 2 cops stood in the doorway, while the others stayed not far in civvies and took responsibility for the kiosk. Approximately 2am on Sunday, Seyi walked into the kiosk. Minutes later, he stepped out looking confused and since the police closed in, he tried to flee in an auto. When the police followed him, he jumped from their automobile and attempted to flee on foot. Cops nabbed him after a chase.
Seyi told the authorities about his girlfriend, who was arrested’s participation.
During their interrogation, it was disclosed that Seyi came to Mumbai on a business visa while Colin had visited the city in order to undergo some treatments.
The couple was booked for cheating, besides the Information Technology Act. The police said the couple refused to cooperate.
“They said they couldn’t speak Hindi or English. The duo also maintained they had nothing to do with the crime.
The police have recovered two phones, three debit cards such as cloning, a skimmer and a microcam. Bank officials told the authorities that data of 25 customers were stolen.
“We are probing if the couple was reserved for comparable offenses before. They have been sent to police custody until May 17.” Said the official.
It was under the advice of Zone XII DCP, Vinay Kumar Rathod, Senior Inspector Raju Kasbe of Samta Nagar police station and detection officers API Shirdram Maitre, API Nitin Andhade, Sachin Dhobi Shivalkar, Rohan Gaikwad, Gautam Torane, Sanjay More, Vijay Suryawansi, Abhimanyu Gaya, Rajendra Dalve who also played a key role in getting hold of the accused and exposing them.
