A woman, Aiman Zehra has been brutally raped by a 23- year old man, Tahir Ahmed Mir at Bandipora, district of north Kashmir.
Some men and women are claiming that the age of the rapist is above 23 years old But Islamic Education Trust J&K has issued a DOB certification in an attempt to save the rapist.
A video is circulating where she can be seen bleeding from her mouth.
There is a lot of anger among the natives over the incident. Protest in Bandipora has been ongoing since Friday.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway was jammed by people. The authorities left the gas shells to control the protesters and to take out the audience after seeing the case coming out of control.
On Monday, Police also summoned Principal of a private school for allegedly issuing a fake (DOB) certificate in favour of a youth accused in rape of the girl.
Bandipora Deputy Commissioner Shahbaz Mirza said,
“The heinous offense of rape of a minor in Bandipora is under investigation. We assure the perpetrator of the offense will be brought to justice. We appeal to people to stay calm and not heed to any rumours.”
People across the valley of Kashmir took out protest rallies, against the rape and required rigorous punishment.
In Srinagar, protestors held placards and banners that read”hang the offender” and”We need Justice”. The protestors demanded that the offender ought to be retrieved in public that’this incident’.
“A three-year-old girl has been ravaged by a monster. We would like the authorities to hang the offender so that such things do not happen again, ” a protester in Alamgari Bazar explained.
“We want the authorities to set up strict regulations to punish such offenders,” she added.
Terming the offense as a’black stain on society’ a protester said,”as a parent, I am more worried now after this dreadful incident. Kashmir was the most popular place for girls, but now it’s not even safe for children.”
In the Press Enclave of Srinagar, numerous activist, student and spiritual groups staged protests throughout the day against the episode.
“We’re demanding justice from this barbaric act. With each passing day, our society is degrading. We need that politicians and state leaders should come forward to act very harshly against this offender so that such events aren’t repeated in the long run,” a protestor said.
Clashes between protestors and armed forces erupted across the valley.
Since the protests intensified, police used tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the protestors, leaving several injured.
The clashes continued for many hours and lots of areas were wrapped under a blanket of smoke, caused due to indiscriminate use of tear smoke shells.
