The Forum of South-East Governors has commended the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for the “huge infrastructural development” he has enthroned in the state.
Speaking during its meeting held on Sunday at the Government House, Enugu, the forum’s chairman and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi also thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for his consistency in hosting the forum’s meetings.
Gov. Umahi further noted that the forum received an interim report from the South East Consultative Committee on Health tasked with facilitating the establishment of “world-class health facilities in each state of the South-East zone”.
“The forum noted the caliber of health and other professionals in the committee and commended them for the progress so far, and urged them to work towards ensuring the transformation of the zone into a medical tourist destination in Nigeria,” he told journalists at the meeting attended by only three governors from the zone – Ugwuanyi, Umahi and Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
Although the forum appreciated the federal government’s intervention on the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, it frowned on the deplorable state of the runway, runway lights and tarmac, and implored the aviation minister to undertake an on-the-spot assessment and carry out urgent repairs.
“The forum also requested that urgent steps be taken for the reactivation of the cargo section of the airport,” he explained.
The presentation was equally received from the South East Region Development Fund (SENDEV), which is a financial arm of the South East Region Development Commission (SEREDEC). They were advised to channel all development plans in the region through the forum’s secretariat, Gov. Umahi added.
